The ICC Men's ODI Rankings for men moved Pakistan beyond Australia for the top spot after their 3-0 series victory over Afghanistan.

Pakistan regained the top spot in the Men's ODI Rankings after a brief stint at the top in May thanks to a series victory against Afghanistan.

Pakistan has a 2-0 series advantage going into the third game. On the strength of an outstanding bowling performance, they had won the opening ODI by 142 runs. The Men in Green barely managed to win the second game with one wicket remaining after a heart-pounding thriller.

After a strong second half of their batting effort, Pakistan defeated Afghanistan by a score of 59 runs in the third one-day international. Pakistan made 268 on a slow pitch despite a stall in the midst of their innings with the bat, with half-centuries from Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam.

As a response, Faheem Ashraf caught two early on before the spinners struck frequently to restrain Afghanistan. Mujeeb ur Rahman responded with a half-century in just 26 balls, but Pakistan eventually had too much to lose.

As Pakistan completed a clean sweep, Shadab ended with three wickets.

Over the past year, the Asian team has dominated the ODI format. They defeated West Indies and the Netherlands 3-0 at home and away, respectively, in the 2022 campaign. They then defeated New Zealand at home in January 2023 in a 2-1 series.

The following month, in April, the Blackcaps played five One Day Internationals. The series was ultimately won by Pakistan 4-1. The 3-0 series victory has now propelled them to the top of the rankings.

Prior to the Afghanistan series, Pakistan was ranked second, with 115.8 rating points, while Australia was first, with 118 rating points. Pakistan now holds the top spot with 118.48 rating points, followed by Australia in second place with unchanged rating points.

There is still opportunity for movement among the top three teams, Pakistan, Australia, and India, with the upcoming Asia Cup and other one-day international matches leading up to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.
