In his first Hindi movie, Jawan, which translates to "Soldier," is a forthcoming action thriller written and directed by Atlee. Red Chillies Entertainment, under the direction of Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma, produces it. Along with Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone (in a special appearance), Priyamani, and Sanya Malhotra, Shah Rukh Khan plays two characters in the movie.
Originally scheduled for release on June 2, 2023, Jawan has been delayed owing to unfinished post-production work. It will now be released in theaters on September 7, 2023, to coincide with Janmashtami, in regular, IMAX, 4DX, and other premium formats.
Development
Late in 2019, there were rumors that Shah Rukh Khan might collaborate with Tamil filmmaker Atlee. Atlee announced Bigil while confirming the project. It was announced in May 2021 that filming would start soon. Gauri Khan is the main producer of the movie through Red Chillies Entertainment, and Gaurav Verma is a co-producer. The project was officially announced by the corporation on June 3, 2022.A $300 crore expenditure is being used to produce the movie.
S. Ramana Girivasan and Atlee collaborated on the writing for the movie for the fourth time in a row. The dialogues were contributed by Sumit Arora. Additionally, Atlee kept most of his standard crew members, such as stunt coordinator Anal Arasu, editor Ruben, art director T. Muthuraj, and cinematographer G. K. Vishnu.Additionally engaged as stunt directors were Spiro Razatos, Craig Macrae, Yannick Ben, Kecha Khamphakdee, and Sunil Rodrigues.The movie's dances were choreographed by Farah Khan, Vaibhavi Merchant, Shobi, and Lalitha.

On September 7, 2023, Jawan will be released in Hindi along with dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions in conventional, IMAX, 4DX, and other premium formats. The movie's initial release date was set for June 2, 2023. It was revealed later in May 2023 that the movie has been postponed till August 2023. The movie was later rumored to come out on its initial release date, but it was eventually confirmed that it will come out on September 7, 2023.The first Indian movie to be shown at the IMAX Leonberg, the biggest movie theater in the world, was Jawan. Additionally, it is the first Hindi movie to be released simultaneously in Bangladesh.
