Total Drama

Developed by Jennifer Pertsch and Tom McGillis, complete Drama is a Canadian animated television series that debuted on Cartoon Network (previously Teletoon) in Canada on July 8, 2007, and Cartoon Network in the United States on June 5, 2008. The show pays homage to and parodies typical tropes from reality competition series like Survivor.

A group of teens participate in a competition with elimination-style challenges each season, competing for awards and immunity from elimination by completing challenges both individually and in teams. About halfway through the competition, the teams combine into individuals. The players are gradually eliminated from the game as they form relationships with one another. When there are only two participants remaining, they participate in a final challenge for a financial reward; in the first season, it was $100,000 (US$73,129.00), and from the second season on, it was $1,000,000 (US$731,485.00). Six seasons total—Island, Action, World Tour, Revenge of the Island, the two-part All-Stars and Pahkitew Island, and the resurrection of Total Drama Island—make up the current run of the show.

A franchise and a cult following have grown up around Total Drama. Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race, a spin-off series, debuted on September 7, 2015. Total DramaRama, a second spin-off series, debuted on September 1 in the United States and on October 7 in Canada.

Total Drama was revived, and on February 17, 2021, it was announced that two new seasons would be developed for Cartoon Network in Canada, Cartoon Network in the United States, and CBBC in the United Kingdom. Due to timing and casting restrictions, nobody of the original voice actors nor any of the prior participants will return for any season, which will act as a soft reboot of the original series. On April 10, 2023, the first season was released in Italy; Discovery+ in the area carried the original English version, which will subsequently have an international expansion.

There were two distinct parts to the fifth season. Total Drama: Pahkitew Island, the second episode, has a new cast and setting whereas the first episode, Total Drama All-Stars, is set on the original island from the first season, Camp Wawanakwa.

McGillis had made it clear in 2013 that he wanted Total Drama to have ten seasons. The series' executive story editor and senior writer, Alex Ganetakos, also stated in 2014 that there would be additional seasons produced in the future.

When asked if there would be more seasons in a Q&A on September 25, 2018, McGillis replied, "Nope. I hate to break your dreams, but there isn't currently a market for this experience in the larger entertainment industry.
