Australia and India's three-match ODI series is about to start. The two sides will use the series as a warm-up for the World Cup in India. Australia's captain Pat Cummins stated his desire to participate in all three of the series' games before to the opening One-Day International. Off-spinner R Ashwin has returned to the Indian ODI team for the three-match series against Australia. He and Washington Sundar will be vying for a possible World Cup spot if Axar Patel is unable to recover in time for the international competition. Senior players, including as captain Rohit Sharma, veteran batsman Virat Kohli, all-arounder Hardik Pandya, and in-form spinner Kuldeep Yadav, have been given the opportunity to relax from the first two games in order to prepare psychologically for the ODI World Cup.

Before the World Cup, which starts on October 5, K L Rahul will captain the team for the first two ODIs against Australia before Rohit comes back to captain a complete team in the third and final match.
